Provenance: Venmo is owned by PayPal. Its transaction feed was public-by-default for years; in 2018 the FTC charged Venmo with misrepresenting privacy controls and the security of transactions (settled, with biennial third-party assessments for ten years), and Venmo removed its global public feed in 2021. Payment activity remains visible to your network under default friend-level settings unless changed.
